Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam which signifies its importance. The best time to pay this obligatory form of Charity is during Ramadan, to increase its rewards.

Zakat not only cleanses one’s wealth but also purifies one’s soul. For those who are able to meet the minimum threshold of assets or wealth (Nisab), it is calculated at 2.5% of one’s total wealth which have been in one’s ownership for at least one year.
